Rijeka, Croatia's second largest urban area is a home to friendly locals and it's unmatched when it comes to culture and entertainment during the summer months.
This popular language and cultural immersion program in summer will take place for 4 weeks. The program is creatively designed as a mixture of 60 hours of in-class lessons taught by language professor(s) and exploration of Croatian culture, heritage, music, food, people giving a true representation of today's Croatia, a modern evolving country with a Mediterranean soul and spirit.
The language classes are held at the Milton School for Foreign Languages (certified language institution), in the heart of Rijeka, steps from the old city center. Students meet daily, Monday to Friday. The lessons are usually organized in the mornings while the rest of the day is free for organized or individually created discoveries of the city and it's surrounding.
Teachers hold a university degree in teaching Croatian as a foreign language to foreign students. The beach, harbor, cafes, bars and all facilities are only a short walk away. A language placement test will be held on the first day of the classes. Small class sizes make a learning experience more personalized and fun. Based on the test results students will be placed in three levels: beginners, intermediate and advanced. At the end of the course participating students are asked to take an exam. After successful completion of the Program students are awarded a certificate.
During the program, students are accommodated throughout the city of Rijeka. The accommodations are in student residence type dormitories ' clean, spacious and bright, all conveniently connected to public transportation (for which you will have a monthly pass).
The program is perfect for anyone who wants to learn Croatian language and explore the culture. Program participants are mostly students of Croatian and Slavic languages from abroad or people with Croatian background' basically everyone interested learning more about beautiful Croatian language, culture, customs and people.

According to a legend, a long time ago, for several years Rijeka was a home to Crusaders taking relics to Rome. Furthermore, because of its excellent positioning on the north Kvarner Gulf and under the Natural park of the Ucka Mountains, throughout its rich and fascinating history, the city was a conquest for many rulers and nations. Today, the city of Rijeka is an important business, trade and industrial midpoint in the western part of the Republic of Croatia and a lively cultural and artistic centre, with a number of cultural and educational institutions, schools and the University.
The meaning of the city's name Rijeka (river) represents just one of many special and unique things about our beloved and beautiful home. Just outside the city there is a fresh water spring that supplies the whole area and, as the saying goes, once you have quenched your thirst with Rijeka's water, you will always return to taste it again!
The Croatian coastline is one of the most rugged and picturesque in the Mediterranean basin, having more than 1100 islands, with a total coastal length in excess of four thousand kilometers. Of the numerous islands along the coast two of the largest ' island of Krk and island of Cres, can both be seen from the Rijeka's harbor. The Kvarner Bay and the peninsula Istria, represent the most developed parts of the country as far as tourism is concerned. This region has a long and rich tradition in tourism, dating back to the 19th. The extremely rugged coastline with numerous gentle bays is perfect for swimming and other aquatic activities. Naturally, there is a great demand for nautical tourism. In Kvarner, the Istrian Riviera and the associated islands there are some 16 marinas and numerous small ports.
