Duration of Program: 3-6 months
Typical Duration of Program: 3-6 months
Dates: Every Saturday throughout the year

Description: Travel through the highlands of Guatemala, the valleys of Nicaragua and the jungles of Honduras whilst volunteering in Central America. Teach within the indigenous communities, immerse yourself in the local culture, build energy efficient stoves, learn to speak Spanish and explore many of Central America's most captivating places.

This exciting and meaningful volunteering trip takes you on a Central American adventure to discover an array of exciting experiences and meet some awe-inspiring people. You will gain first-hand experience of the Honduran, Nicaraguan and Guatemalan cultures, as you live and work in the countries' local communities, and get Spanish lessons to enhance your ability to communicate with the local neighbourhoods. Your time volunteering in Central America will directly contribute towards the progression of many of the region's disadvantaged communities, as you will be teaching in local schools.

Your time will be split between three of Central America's most fantastic and charismatic countries: Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. In each of these countries, you will assist in the education of children that have limited or no access to schooling, in communities that have requested our support. In each of the countries, a whole host of tasks and goals lie ahead of you, but your main aim will always be to improve the education of the local children by working to increase, amongst other things, their literacy and numeracy skills. You will spend the initial four weeks in Guatemala, followed by four weeks in Honduras and the remaining four weeks in Nicaragua. By focusing your volunteering efforts in these three countries, you will be able to gain a real insight and admiration of this awe-inspiring region, whilst contributing towards the progression of some of the countries' disadvantaged people.

Spanish classes are incorporated into your time volunteering in Central America, so you can develop your linguistic capabilities and guarantee you experience all that volunteering in Central America has to offer. In order to absorb yourself fully into the host culture and have abundant opportunities to practice your Spanish, you will stay with the warm and welcoming local families; they will provide you with meals and support during your time volunteering. You will feast on local cuisine, immerse yourselves in the local culture and intermingle with the locals on a daily basis. You'll also get ample opportunities to visit the nearby attractions, including the adventure excursions to places such as the Guatemalan Lake Atitlan, the horse riding trails in Honduras or the Miraflor Nature Reserve. As a volunteering experience, this Central American volunteering trip will provide you with an extraordinarily significant and rewarding experience as part of a gap year, career break or adventure travel experience. It gives you the fantastic chance to discover Central America, whilst learning the handsome Spanish language and having a real constructive impact on the local places and people.
