Description: The Eurolingua Institute French language school in the South of France is situated in the heart of beautiful, historic Montpellier, minutes from the railway/bus station/tramway, the world-famous Place de la Comedie, the Tour de la Babote and within only 20 minutes of the airport and wonderful Mediterranean beaches. Highlights: This exam is for people working in the hotel, tourism and restaurant industry or students preparing for employment in these sectors of activity.

The "Certificat de francais du tourisme et de l'hotellerie" addresses those professionals who have, or will have, direct contact with a French-speaking clientele for whom the professionals have a direct responsibility within such sectors as:

* Travel agents, tour operators, ticket offices, organisers for incoming groups

The Certificat de francais du tourisme et de l'hotellerie (CFTH) requires candidates to have a B1+ level on the Common European Framework for languages. The exam is validated by the Chambre de Commerce et Industrie de Paris (CCIP).   

Objectives

* The exam requires candidates to show their ability to deal competently in French in situations relevant to the hotel, tourism and restaurant industry.   

* Candidates will be expected to demonstrate that they are able to cope effectively in spoken and written French in a professional work situation dealing with a French-speaking client.   

Internationally recognised, the exam will allow :

- candidates to validate their French language skills in professional situations
- companies in the hotel and tourist industry to recruit staff with a French qualification for working in a professional tourist environment

Programme

The Certificat de francais du tourisme et de l'hotellerie is a language exam based on competences in professional situations with which the candidate is already familiar in his native language or which can be acquired during the programme. The exam tests knowledge of language and communications necessary to succeed in professional tasks in 3 areas : hotel, tourism and restaurant/catering.

Tourism
reply to the requirements of a client (individual or group) asking for a service to :

- suggest appropriate tourist routes
- organise a local tour
- make reservations for a trip or a journey
- arrange hotel accommodation
- make reservations at a hotel

reply to a request for information from a client:

- help a client to choose, to buy or to reserve something
- change, cancel a reservation or service
- write a letter, a telex, a fax in response to a relevant tourist situation
design and prepare a short information document - newsletter, customer information or promotion for tourist services
- present and annotate an itinerary for a touristic visit
- write a general information sheet on his country for use with foreign visitors

Hotel
- welcome clients and escort them to and settle them into their rooms
explain the terms and conditions for a reservation; make, change or cancel a reservation individual or group)
- prepare an invoice, ask for payment, deal with (orally) a minor complaint
- write a letter, telex, fax, in reply to a given situation relevant to the hotel
- design and prepare a short information document, newsletter or sheet to promote the hotel's services

Restaurant
- Welcome clients (individual or group) and escort them to the table
- Take the order from the client (individual or group)
- Resolve minor complaints relating to the restaurant
- Suggest special or adapted menus (groups, set menus, children, special diets)

Programme description

The course is 10 weeks with a total of 350 hours of French lessons of which 50 hours are directed study (to be marked by the tutor the next day). A practical session of 12 weeks may be possible.

The French Hotel and Tourism Certificate (Certificat de Français du Tourisme et de l'Hôtellerie) consists of a 10-week, 350 hours, full-time French language training programme for the Hotel and Tourism industry, bringing participants upto a B1 Level on the European Scale. This means that candidates with only an elementary knowledge of French may start the programme. Success in the Paris Chamber of Commerce examinations will certify a B1 Level. Candidates who can already demonstrate a B1 Level can enrol on a shorter 3-week preparation programme leading up to the same Paris Chamber of Commerce examination dates. The programme takes place at the Eurolingua Institute in Montpellier, South of France, with start dates on the 1st October 2007, 21st January 2008, 25th February 2008, 31st March 2008, 14th July 2008, and the 29th September 2008. We can admit 60 students per session. Programme fees are 4800 Euro per person. Accommodation can be arranged for participants with our local French host families for an additional linguistic benefit and social interaction. The homestay rate, including private room with half-board (breakfast and evening dinner), is 175 Euro per person per week (not commissionable). Your total budget, including course fees, half-board accommodation with a French family, Paris Chamber of Commerce examination fees, examination centre fees, and visa support fees, is 6900 Euro, including a 350 Euro non-refundable deposit with each application. For an accommodation supplement, we can also offer sessions for incoming groups at our Eurolingua Méditerranée Sète campus, a magnificent fully residential, 7½ acre (3 hectare) coastal resort site, just outside Montpellier, set in pinewoods and with direct access to the beach. Facilities include 140 bedrooms each with 1 to 4 beds providing fully serviced accommodation for 250 people. There are 4 dining rooms, a large summer terrace, barbecue, 2 TV rooms, lounge, internet access, bar, library, games room, lecture theatre, conference rooms for 150 people with full technical support, party room for 120 people. Catering for 400 people, laundry service, strongbox facilities. Regional excursions. Easy international access via Montpellier Airport. For candidates who wish to enter the examinations, the Paris Chamber of Commerce registration procedures and corresponding examination fees must be completed and paid at least six weeks in advance of the required examination date.
