Description:
Located only one hour from the United States border, on the west coast of Canada, and in the province of British Columbia, Vancouver is the 3rd largest city of Canada with a population of about 1.5m (city) to 3 m. (surrounds). Widely regarded as Canada's most scenic city, Vancouver enjoys a pleasant and mild climate with little snow in the winter and 30°c in the summer. Its mountain and sea location makes Vancouver ideal for nature and action-lovers, with the nearest ski-field only 20 minutes away from downtown. In the springtime it is possible to golf, ski and kayak all in the same day!
* The Institute
Located in the heart of the downtown shopping area and close to all public transport (buses, skytrain, seabus), the Institute has between 120 and 200 students at any one time. It provides a professional but friendly environment, with facilities including computer room for free internet and email, student kitchen & lounge (free tea and coffee), cable TV, and games-room with pool and table tennis.
* The Programmes
We offer full-time (30hours/week)and half-time (15 hours/week) English conversational and Business English courses (including TOEIC) for adults (17 years and over). Students attending half-time classes, mornings or afternoons, are able to choose one activity every Friday for free. Full-time students may choose two free activities. The Institute offers 8 levels of English with a maximum of 12 students per class. At any one time, there are students from 12 to 16 countries. However, we have a strict English-only policy so that students may develop their English skills to the maximum. Our classes are very interactive and focus largely on improving speaking and listening skills, although reading and writing exercises are also included.
* Activities
The Institute is the only adult ESL school to offer FREE, weekly Friday activities in conjunction with its English programme. Students may choose from over 120 activities, anything from skiing lessons to horseback trails, golf to scuba diving lessons, camping to computer classes, and tours to Victoria and Whistler. Everything is included: transport, lessons, tours, equipment, entrance fees and, in some cases, meals too. Individually, these can cost over USD 100 each at other schools. As an alternative, students may also choose from academic classes on Fridays at no extra cost.
Highlights:
Volunteer Programme
Further, students also have the opportunity to incorporate volunteer work into their English programmes at no extra cost! For example, working in the community with children or elderly people, assisting at conventions and sports events, or volunteer work in the workplace where students have yet another opportunity to practise their English. Why not offer your knowledge and work skills to the community at large in Vancouver and gain valuable overseas experience. You will even receive a "Work Reference" from your supervisor. Professional students find that this leads to better work opportunities when they return home.
