Highlights:
Buenos Aires, is a complex, energetic and seductive port city, which has been the gateway to Argentina for centuries. The city has an elaborate and rich cultural identity. A vibrant European heritage is obvious in a city whose inhabitants' names are markedly Italian and German.
Their lifestyle and architecture are noticeably more European than any other city in South America. The city's physical structure is a mosaic as varied and diverse as its culture. The city has no dominating district, the city's neighborhoods are small and highly individualized, each with its own characteristic colors and forms.
Buenos Aires is a sprawling giant, with towering glass skyscrapers casting shadows on 19th century Victorian houses and a wealth of unique neighborhoods, each with its own personality. Even though Buenos Aires has a population of over 9 million people, it is Considered a safe city.
The San Telmo district, where Buenos Aires artists work and live, is noted for its mishmash of architectural styles, perfectly embodying Buenos Aires' multinational heritage in Spanish Colonial houses with Italian detailing and graceful French Classic buildings holding antique shops, tango bars and cafes.
La Boca's tin houses were painted a rainbow of colors by 19th century Italian immigrant families, colors which are still bright and set off by the colorful murals decorating the walls of side streets. The city's chicest neighborhood is the Barrio Recoleta, called the Beverly Hills of Buenos Aires for its art galleries and upscale restaurants.
Culture flourishes in this city. One of the world's finest opera houses, the Teatro Colon, is located here and the famous Museo de Bellas Artes is Argentina's finest art gallery with a great collection of modern Argentine painters, wood sculptured artifacts from the provinces, and Impressionist and post-Impressionist paintings such as Monet, Degas, and Chagall.
This magical city called the Paris of the Americas, offers wonderful nightlife including cafes, bars and countless tango clubs that are open until sunrise. Imagine walking home in the early morning through the Plaza de Mayo, where the citizens of this great city gathered together to hear speeches by Juan and Evita Peron.
