Description: ISA programs in Guanajuato, Mexico, are all-inclusive (with the exception of airfare). The Universidad de Guanajuato is an accredited university and issues all transcripts. Various programs are offered with the opportunity to gain college credit. Students of all levels of Spanish proficiency are eligible. Semester/Year students with the appropriate language level will have the opportunity to take classes with Mexican students.

Guanajuato (pop. 120,000), located about five hours northwest of Mexico City, remains one of Mexico's most well-preserved cities. Guanajuato is home to the world-renowned Teatro Juarez and many beautiful 18th century cathedrals which were financed by the wealth of the area's silver-mining industry. Its older buildings still appear relatively untouched by modern construction, lending the town a distinctive European air. Built by the citizens in the early 1900s to divert flooding of the Rio Guanajuato, the city has an intricate system of underground tunnels. Today, these tunnels-turned-streets contribute to the town's timeless appearance by eliminating many of the cars, which would otherwise crowd the town's center. Guanajuato's rich history, former inaccessibility, and small size all help to create a truly unique atmosphere.
